SAI's Opportunities at NIH

NIH is utilizing the Long Term Administrative Services Contract (LTASC) to meet its need for Administrative Professionals.  NIH has identified four levels of Administrative support:

Administrative Assistant I (Admin I)
This is NIH's entry-level Administrative category.  The minimum educational requirement for an Admin I is a High School Diploma or a GED.  Duties include basic clerical support, such as:

  • Greeting and Directing Visitors
  • Answering Phones
  • Scheduling Meetings
  • Data Entry
  • Filing
  • Faxing

Administrative Assistant II (Admin II)
NIH's Admin II personnel have all the skills of an Admin I and are expected to have the ability to multi-task, assisting multiple customers at the same time.  This position requires more advanced computer skills.  Individuals working at the Admin II level are expected to have a High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of working experience.  Additional duties include:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheet Management
  • Advanced Internet Research

Administrative Assistant III (Admin III)
Admin III staff support senior-level staff at NIH, performing complex administrative tasks.  Tasks are similar in nature to those at the Admin I and II levels, but issues are more complex, sensitive, or visible.  Admin III personnel are expected to have an undergraduate degree or a High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience.  Admin III personnel are expected to have previous experience in a scientific research environment and knowledge of business administration best practices.

Administrative Assistant IV (Admin IV)
Admin IV personnel serve at the executive management level.  Duties are similar to those listed above, but the level of performance is higher.  Admin IV professionals are expected to interact successfully with all levels of the organization, from Directors all the way through their clerical colleagues.  The Admin IV is expected to understand NIH and its environment, and should have extensive experience in the scientific research environment.  Admin IV's are expected to have a college degree and four (4) years of experience, or a High School Diploma or GED and eight (8) years of experience.

LTASC is governed by the Wage Determination Act.  At a minimum, all salaries must meet the Wage Determination rates.  Additionally, beginning in June 2010, all employers are required to provide at least $3.50/hour in health and welfare benefits to employees working under LTASC. For more information about available careers at NIH, or if your position at NIH has been released through the task order process, please e-mail us at careers@sa-it.com.
